How to Save Instagram Reels to Camera Roll (iPhone & Android 2026)
Step-by-step guide to save Instagram Reels directly to your camera roll on iPhone and Android in 2026. Free methods with and without third-party apps.
Why Can't You Save Instagram Reels Directly?
Instagram removed the native download button from Reels to keep users on the platform. However, there are several reliable methods to save Reels to your camera roll on both iPhone and Android without violating any guidelines.
Method 1: Use SnapReel (Fastest, No App Needed)
The easiest way to save Instagram Reels to your camera roll is using SnapReel.app:
- Open the Instagram app and find the Reel you want to save.
- Tap the three-dot menu (⋯) and select Copy link.
- Open your browser and go to snapreel.app.
- Paste the link and tap Download.
- Tap the Download Video button and save the file.
On iPhone: After downloading, the MP4 file saves to Files. Use the Documents app by Readdle to move it to your camera roll. On Android: The file saves directly to your Downloads folder and automatically appears in your Gallery.
Method 2: Save Reels Using the Instagram App (For Your Own Content)
If the Reel belongs to someone else and they have enabled saving, you can use the bookmark/save feature. However, this only saves it to your Instagram Saved folder — not to your device. To get it off Instagram, you still need a tool like SnapReel.
For your own Reels, you can save them before posting: go to Settings > Account > Original Posts and turn on Save original videos. This saves a copy of your own Reels to your camera roll when you post.
Method 3: Screen Recording (Low Quality)
As a last resort, you can use the built-in screen recording feature on iPhone (Control Center) or Android (swipe down from Quick Settings). However, this captures the video at screen resolution, which is lower quality than the original, and also captures any UI elements on screen. Not recommended for quality content.
Saving Reels on iPhone — Detailed Steps
- Copy the Reel link from Instagram.
- Open SnapReel in Safari (Chrome on iPhone doesn't support direct downloads to camera roll).
- Paste the link and tap Download.
- Tap Download Video — a prompt will appear.
- Tap Download to save to Files.
- Open the Files app, find the downloaded MP4, and tap Share > Save Video to add it to your camera roll.
Saving Reels on Android — Detailed Steps
- Copy the Reel link from Instagram.
- Open SnapReel in Chrome.
- Paste the link and tap Download.
- Tap Download Video — the file saves to your Downloads folder.
- Open your Gallery app — the video will appear in the Downloads album automatically.
Video Quality When Saving Reels
When you use SnapReel, you get the original quality video that Instagram stores — typically 720p or 1080p HD in MP4 format. This is far better than screen recording, which captures compressed screen pixels.
